Introduction

The narrator is a pilot flying his old Dakota aeroplane from Paris to London on a clear night. He is happy because he hopes to have breakfast with his family the next morning.

Soon, he notices dark storm clouds ahead. Instead of turning back, he decides to fly through them because he wants to reach home on time.

Inside the storm, everything becomes dark. The compass stops working. The radio also fails. He cannot see anything outside. He becomes frightened because his fuel is almost finished.

Suddenly, he notices another aeroplane—a strange black aeroplane flying nearby. The unknown pilot signals him to follow.

Trusting the mysterious pilot, he follows the black aeroplane through the storm.

After some time, the storm ends, and he safely reaches the runway at an airport.

The mysterious black aeroplane disappears immediately after guiding him.

The pilot asks the woman in the control tower about the other aeroplane.

She tells him that no other aeroplane was flying that night except his.
